If you enjoy really great food served in a relaxed atmosphere with fabulous coffee amongst some of the best art on offer locally then we think the artcafé is just the place for you!
~One of our favourite things on the menu at the moment is our Art Cafe Smoked Salmon Terrine with cucumber salad and toasted rye & caraway bread. Our favourite pudding has to be Lemon Sorbet, three scoops of lushiously local (from Hadley's Farm Dairy in Colne Engaine) zingy sorbet served with a curly biscuit and refreshing as you like. Or why not try everyones favourite 'A Lunchtime Quickie' ~ Soup and Half a Sarnie...a bowl of our delicious homemade soup and half a sandwich with one of our fillings of your choice for just £5.70.

Have you seen our Cake Hole?
For those of you who haven’t seen or don’t know, we have recently started a new venture next door but one to the Mersea Art Cafe. Following years of being asked for our salad dressing, red onion marmalade etc and the increasing need for a bigger kitchen, we have finally taken the plunge and opened a shop selling all manner of delicious things.
Our wares currently include; A wide variety of Cakey Delights; some old favourites with a few new faces - all homemade by us on site, Maggie’s amazing Red Onion Marmalade, our own Honey Mustard Dressing – as has graced many an art cafe salad, a whole host of Tea and Coffee – both to drink in and take home, lovely Cold Drinks, ever so more-ish Olives from olives et al, Bread as experienced in the art cafe - plus a number of fantastic artisan loaves all courtesy of The Food Company in Marks Tey and the most amazing Ice Cream from Hadleys Dairy in Colne Engaine - our current favourite is the honeycomb crunch but the elderflower and lime is giving it a run for its money.

We don’t like to brag but...
In the past we have never really talked about where we source our ingredients, its not that we have anything to hide, we just don’t like to brag and believe that truly tasty food speaks for itself. However as everyone else keeps going on about how fantastic they are, we thought we’d let you know a bit about that side of us.
We use fresh produce at every opportunity we get and change our menu four times a year to take advantage of what’s in season at that time. All our cakes are homemade by us either on site in the cafes or in our lovely new kitchen at our shop The Cake Hole. The term homemade gets bandied about a lot, often by people who don’t really mean it, but we really do and the sheer number of free range eggs we get through a week just baking cakes would make a chicken’s eyes water. The sausages we use are all freedom food certified as is our lovely ice cream. The veg we use is as local as we can possibly get and some of it is even grown at home, either by us or by local merseaites. Our bread is baked fresh every day and our cheese is veggie friendly.
Although air miles are a constant problem in the world today we try our best to source locally or to limit the distance our ingredients have travelled where ever possible.
We whole heartedly believe in slow not fast food so as the saying goes chillax and enjoy.
