The Artcafé is located on the island of Mersea at the mouth of the River Blackwater on the east coast of Essex 50 miles out of London and just 9 miles south of Colchester on the B1025 and we (the artcafé) are on the corner of Church Road opposite the Norman Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Just stay on the main road when you come onto the island and you'll come right to us.

Being an island, Mersea has just one link with the Essex Mainland via the 'Strood' which regularly gets flooded for an hour or more at spring tides. The casual visitor is well advised to check their tide table before setting out. Getting stranded however can often be a spectacularly beautiful sight and in a very hectic world can offer some precious time to reflect! Your opportunities to get stuck on Mersea Island as the strood is most likely to flood in July are :- 11th - 19th and also 26th - 31st. For accurate tide times check out the Mersea Island website
