Have you seen our Cake Hole?
Next door but one to the Art Cafe at West Mersea is our 'Cake Hole. Following years of being asked for our salad dressing, red onion marmalade etc. and the increasing need for a bigger kitchen, we have a shop selling all manner of delicious things.
Our wares currently include; A wide variety of Cakey Delights; some old favourites with a few new faces - all homemade by us on site, Maggie’s amazing Red Onion Marmalade, our own Honey Mustard Dressing, a whole host of Teas and Coffees – both to drink in and take home and lovely Cold Drinks.
You'll love our ever so more-ish Olives from olives et al, Fresh Bread daily including traditional loaves and speciality breads such as the famous Sourdough, Rye and Caraway and Foccacia. We have the most amazing Ice Cream from Hadleys Dairy in Colne Engaine - our current favourite is the Mango and Lime Sorbet but the Honecomb Crunch is giving it a run for its money!

We don’t like to brag but...
In the past we have never really talked about where we source our ingredients, its not that we have anything to hide, we just don’t like to brag and believe that truly tasty food speaks for itself. However as everyone else keeps going on about how fantastic they are, we thought we’d let you know a bit about that side of us.
We use fresh produce at every opportunity we get and change our menu four times a year to take advantage of what’s in season at that time. All our cakes are homemade by us either on site in the cafes or in our lovely new kitchen at our shop The Cake Hole. The term homemade gets bandied about a lot, often by people who don’t really mean it, but we really do and the sheer number of free range eggs we get through a week just baking cakes would make a chicken’s eyes water. The sausages we use are all freedom food certified as is our lovely ice cream. The veg we use is as local as we can possibly get and some of it is even grown at home, either by us or by local merseaites. Our bread is baked fresh every day and our cheese is veggie friendly.
Although air miles are a constant problem in the world today we try our best to source locally or to limit the distance our ingredients have travelled where ever possible.
We whole heartedly believe in slow not fast food so as the saying goes chillax and enjoy.
